Lagerfeld by Karl Lagerfeld is the designer's original 1978 eau de toilette for men, a woody oriental that helped define late-seventies masculine perfumery. It is a bold, spicy-woody composition with a distinctly old-school character.
The opening pairs aldehydes and citrus — bergamot and lemon — with aromatic tarragon, clary sage, and green notes. That brisk herbal-citrus start gives way to a rich heart of tobacco, sandalwood, orris root, patchouli, rose, cedar, and jasmine. The tobacco and patchouli lend a smoky warmth, while orris and rose keep the blend polished.
A deep base of amber, musk, vanilla, oakmoss, and tonka bean rounds out the composition with warm, powdery sweetness.
